Subaru Announces Major Recalls for Panoramic Moonroof Defects and Rear Hatch Support Brackets in 2026

Subaru of America has issued a significant safety recalls in 2025 and 2026, impacting a range of popular models due to rear hatch supports, 18" wheels and panoramic moonroof defects. These recalls aim to address critical safety concerns to ensure the continued safety and reliability of affected vehicles.

Summary

2025 Subaru Forester

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling some 2025 Forester vehicles equipped with 18″ aluminum alloy wheels. The wheels may have been manufactured with an incorrectly specified lug seat surface, which can result in the wheel being improperly attached and create vehicle in-stability. A loss of vehicle stability increases the risk of a crash.

What to do

Dealers will inspect and replace the wheels, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 24, 2025. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru’s number for this recall is WRB-25.

2026 Subaru Forester : Subaru is also recalling certain 2026 Forester vehicles. These vehicles may have been manufactured with an incorrect and/or incorrectly oriented rear hatch support bracket which can detach without prior warning.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear hatch support brackets and, if necessary, replace the stay and support bracket, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 29, 2026. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRG-25.

Panoramic Moonroof Glitches

The second recall focuses on potential issues with the panoramic moonroof assembly in certain models, which could lead to detachment or shattering.

Affected Models and Model Years (Moonroof) Nearly 70,000 Foresters Effected

* Subaru Forester SUV's and Forester Hybrid: 2024-2025 model years (equipped with panoramic moonroof)

The Specific Moonroof Issue

Subaru has identified that the adhesive used to secure the panoramic glass panel to the vehicle's roof frame may degrade prematurely due to environmental factors and manufacturing variances. This degradation could weaken the bond, potentially allowing the glass panel to detach from the vehicle while in motion. In some instances, thermal stress combined with weakened adhesion could also lead to spontaneous shattering of the glass panel.

Potential Risks

The failure of a panoramic moonroof presents several safety hazards:

* Road Hazard: A detached glass panel could become a projectile, endangering other motorists.

* Injury Risk: Shattering glass could cause injury to vehicle occupants.

* Distraction: Unexpected detachment or shattering can severely distract the driver, potentially leading to a loss of control.

* Weather Exposure: A compromised moonroof exposes the vehicle's interior to elements.

What Subaru Owners Should Do

Subaru is committed to rectifying these issues promptly and efficiently.

Identifying Your Vehicle

Owners of potentially affected vehicles are encouraged to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on this website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website once the recall is officially announced and VIN lookup tools are updated.

The Recall Process

* Notification: Subaru will notify all registered owners of affected vehicles by mail, providing detailed instructions on how to proceed. These notifications are expected to begin in late January to early February 2026.

* Dealership Appointment: Owners will be instructed to schedule an appointment with an authorized Subaru dealership.

* Inspection and Repair: Dealership technicians will inspect the affected components.

For the *braking recall**, the brake booster vacuum hose will be inspected and replaced with an improved, more durable hose, free of charge.

For the *moonroof recall**, the panoramic glass panel's adhesive bond will be inspected. If any signs of degradation are found, or as a preventative measure on all affected vehicles, new adhesive will be applied, or the entire glass panel assembly will be replaced, free of charge.

* Reimbursement: Owners who may have already paid for repairs related to these specific issues before the recall announcement may be eligible for reimbursement.

Interim Safety Measures

If you own one of the affected models and experience any symptoms related to these recalls (e.g., a "hard" brake pedal, unusual noises from the moonroof, or visible cracks), contact your Subaru dealership immediately and exercise extreme caution when driving.

Subaru's Commitment to Safety

Subaru emphasizes that these recalls are being conducted out of an abundance of caution and its unwavering commitment to the safety and satisfaction of its customers. The company urges all owners of affected vehicles to take these recalls seriously and have the necessary repairs completed as soon as possible.
